Respect yourself and your learning, your peers, all staff members and the instructional community at all times. (Respect your learning and everything that can come from it. Respect yourself by showing up on time, daily. Respect your teachers by showing up to their classes (including virtual sessions) on time. Respect your peers by staying on track in class and not allowing yourself to lose focus. Refrain from distracting yourself or others with off-task banter.)
Take actionable steps that are consistent with your knowledge of what is right and what is wrong.
(Involve yourself with the things that will help you to progress and grow into a productive student and not with things that will hinder your academic success. If and when you make mistakes, own your mistakes and work to resolve them.)
Take responsibility for your learning and your actions.
(Take responsibility for your learning. Always come prepared for the day ahead and look for opportunities to stretch and grow yourself personally. Know that your actions and what comes from them are yours. No one else can be held accountable for your choices, just as you cannot be held accountable for the actions of another person.
Be committed to the process of bettering yourself socially, emotionally and academically.
(Be committed to yourself and your learning. Always come to school prepared to learn and with all necessary materials. Be sure to complete all tasks and assignments in a manner which communicates the respect you have for yourself as a student.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
(Know that kindness can mean a lot to a peer. Find ways to express yourself without being mean. If and when disagreements arise, find ways to do so with respect for yourself and your peers.)
Be true to yourself while always conducting yourself as a BLA Leader.
(Be honest with yourself when you are slacking as a student in order to make positive changes where necessary. Know that loyalty and honesty are two traits that go hand in hand and can lead you towards greatness.)
Always put your education first! (As a committed BLA scholar, stay focused on your goal of graduating within 4 years and being college and career ready. Stay connected to the things that help you to take productive steps towards academic success.)
Welcome, new Scholars to the BLA Family. We are so happy you have joined us! Congratulations on having climbed another rung on the ladder of academic achievement. Your progress comes at a monumental time in history, as COVID has re-made the education environment. We are now dealing with social distancing, remote learning and more. We realize this is all very different for you – not only because you are adjusting to high school and new approaches to learning - but also because you will have additional expectations and responsibilities, that come with achieving your new status as high school students.
What You Need to Know
We want you to know the changes are new for all of us. We also want you to know, and remember, we are all in this together! What does that mean? It means that as a community, as BLA Family, we work together to ensure a fair, trusting and supportive learning environment.
Each of you plays a key role in that mission. Staff are fully committed to supporting you in your BLA experience, but we need your cooperation. In order to maintain that fair, trusting and supportive learning space – one that supports growth and furthers success - BLA asks your commitment to seven rules (aka Non-Negotiables). They are posted on the school website, and for those of you attending in-person classes, they are also posted in the school building. They are extremely important to the safety and overall success of the entire student body. As such, we are trusting that you will follow them at all times.
Each of you has the power to learn, lead and positively contribute to the school, community and greater society! BLA staff are committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Again scholars, welcome! Plan and prepare for success. Do your best. Aim for greatness! #TogetherBLAStrong
